Why organic?

We often get this question…”Why should I care if my clothes are organic, I can’t eat them?” Here is the answer to that question:

TO PRESERVE OUR MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE (WATER) AND SAVE OUR PLANET.

Easy enough, right? But what does that really mean? We hear it all the time, “save our planet.” We believe that it is not so much about “saving the planet” as it is about just doing the right thing.

You see, to farm the amount of cotton that it takes to make just one t-shirt, a traditional farmer uses approximately 3.5 lbs. of fertilizer and over 300 gallons of water. That’s for just ONE shirt!! To put this in perspective, the average person uses a little less that 100 gallons of water a day (this includes all daily activities such as: showering, washing clothes and dishes, and using the toilet).

Organic farming does not use fertilizers and so it needs much less water. So not only do we not have chemicals going into the ground at alarming rates, destroying our land and getting into our waterways and ultimately our oceans, we are also conserving our most precious natural resource: water. Think about how many clothes are made and bought each day. Now think about all the farming it takes to make those clothes. Do you see our point? Organic farming is about more than just saving our planet; it’s about being responsible and doing the right thing.
