Simple & Attainable Resolutions
Ok so it’s mid-January, how are you doing with your New Years Resolutions? Quit yet? Interesting thing about New Years Resolutions, people seem to make the same ones year after year. Why? Because they can’t make it work. So here are a few tips that change resolutions from wishes to lifestyle.
You are failing because you aren’t creating simple concrete goals. Keep it simple. Set monthly goals that are attainable. Then reward yourself.
Here are some tips that are easy to apply for the most common New Years Resolutions:
1 – Improve your Health
- Eat healthier-Two years ago I went on a 100% raw diet for six months. I don’t recommend doing this, because it takes a lot of discipline. Here is what I learned from it.
- Your body was not meant to eat processed foods. Processed foods clog up your system and destroy your metabolism, among other things.
- Simple solution: Add raw veggies or fruit to every meal. Raw foods fill you faster and have fewer calories. They also add roughage and help your digestive system.
- Keep nuts around as a snack. They add protein and are better for you than honey buns. Raw almonds are the best for you.
- Exercise-
- Add 10 minutes of exercise wherever you can.
- I have 3 children 3 years old and under. Sometimes it’s hard to get them to stay in bed at night, so I usually spend 20 minutes putting them back in their beds. I use this time to throw in some exercise (crunches, push-ups, wall sits, etc) because I can’t really get anything else done.
- Sit on an exercise ball while watching TV. This will keep you working your core muscles.
- Park farther away from the building. Extra walk time adds up.
- Breathe
- Spend 2 minutes a few times a day deep breathing. It helps get the blood flowing, gets more oxygen to the brain & organs, which in turn improve their function, and perks you up. It also is a great simple way to relieve stress and anxiety.
2 – Improve your Life
- Be efficient
- Turn off the water while you brush your teeth.
- Install a programmable thermostat. They save you money and are inexpensive & very convenient
- Be supportive
- Buy local produce when you can, from Farmers Markets to your local store that carries it.
- Be smart
- Stop using plastic.
- Get an aluminum water bottle.
- Use glass or paper containers
- Use cloth grocery bags
Just remember this: No matter what your resolutions are, you have to make a conscious and persistent effort to turn your intentions into realty.
