Interview with Cori Yarckin
Cori Yarkin2010 is a promising year for Cori Yarckin. From TV to band front-woman to singer/songwriter, Cori’s musical talent is growing and expanding at a rapid pace. One of Rolling Stones ‘Top 5 Up and Coming Female Artists’ and Cherry Lane Music Publishing singer/songwriter, Cori Yarckin’s angst-driven, yet light-hearted commercial alternative rock has been compared to a modern day Joan Jett meets Alanis Morrisette with a splash of modern rock.
Cori, originally from Orlando, Fl, and who first got into the entertainment world playing the role of Camille on the Nickelodeon TV series “Noah Knows Best”, met her current band while playing gigs about 5 years ago. With her band (Justin O’Neil: Lead Guitar, Travis Wetherington: Rhythm Guitar, Matt Reed: Bass and Danny Millan: Drums), Cori is a dynamic stage performer putting on exciting and energetic stage shows that have captivated large crowds all over the US at places including the Mercury Lounge in NYC, Vinyl in Atlanta, House of Blues in Orlando to name a few. Cori has opened up for such major acts like 30 Seconds to Mars, Soul Asylum, and the Jonas Brothers, as well as made appearances on TRL and the Today Show, and has had her music in such notable shows as MTV’s “The Hills,” and “The Real World”. “Performing is what I love the most,” says Cori, “there’s nothing like a live band behind you while you dance around like a sweaty maniac, singing your heart out… and knowing that people are enjoying what you’re doing.”
Yarckin recently moved to Los Angeles to explore her talent as a singer/songwriter in collaboration with such industry giants as Mick Mars of Motley Crue, Poet Name Life (DJ for the Black Eyed Peas), Tim Fagan (writer of "Lucky” with Colby Caleit/Jason Miraz), and more. Cori is ever expanding her craft as a song writer and artist and believes that “if you’re not exploring, then you’re not growing.” Cori’s music is growing as well. Cori’s sound started off with a very “pop-rock” feel. Over time it developed a more “retro 80’s” (think AC/DC or Motley Crue) sound. And now it seems to be heading back towards “pop-rock” with an electric twist.
Now that Cori is in LA, she is really concentrating on her song writing which is she says is inspired by life and the people around her. When I asked her about her song, “Get It Out” off the Violent Lips Album, she described it as the result of a bad fight with someone she knows. Cori describes her music as “very female-empowering, angst-driven yet light hearted”, which is an interesting combination….but she somehow pulls it off.
So as you begin your musical journey through 2010, keep your ears out for Cori Yarckin. Whether it be at a live show (either solo, collaborating or with her band), her next album, or your new favorite song by your favorite “big name” artist (written by Cori Yarckin) you are sure to hear Cori Yarckin in 2010.
Cori would like to acknowledge and remember Allan Greene who was her manager for years and unfortunately passed away last year. “He is the reason I’m doing what I’m doing and I miss him every day that he’s gone.”
